WITH APOLOGIES TO THE BEATLES

It was forty years ago today,
Harvey Oswald scared us all away.

We've been paranoid now for awhile,
And it's oftentimes hard to smile.

So let me introduce to you
the act you've known for all these years,

Those Self-Important Fools with Visions of Grandeur!

I would really like to stop their show,
But I thought you might want to know,

That nothing ever stays the same,
and it's the Insecure's only game.

So let me introduce to you
The rumors ringing in our ears,
And those Self-Important Fools with Visions of Grandeur!!

On this day in history, Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed President John F. Kennedy. Oswald was a lone gunman influenced by a variety of things, but mostly by his desire to be noticed by people. His "listen to me or something big is going to happen" attitude seems to also permeate the thinking of all manner of society. What makes people believe in their "rightness" to such an extent that killing is a valid option?

Probably something I'll never understand.

Peace
