So we all know about driving unaccompanied sheep, not throwing things across a street, not attaching spikes to wagon wheels and whatnot.
But I'm here to tell you about another Montana Law.
When driving on a highway, and you see an officer pulled off to the side of the road with his/her emergency lights on, you must slow down 20 mph (that means you must drop down to 50).
That's the law.
I know this because the nice officer told me so yesterday as I was returning home from Helena.
I also promised him that I would let people know about it, so consider yourself informed.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

Noted. Should I ever be driving in Montana.
So. Nice officer. Did he also send you away with any... er... parting gifts? Or just that informative little tip?
In Ohio you're required to pull into the other lane or, if that's not possible, slow down when passing an emergency vehicle. In other words, be safe as you pass it, either giving it plenty of room or taking your time.
Yeah, any parting gifts?
Same here in the wide open spaces of Wyoming. Probably to keep down the instances of troopers getting 80mph suppositories from people not paying attention.
('though someone from town got clipped on the highway last week in a blizzard, was fine from the first accident, then someone clipped the cruiser as he was climbing in to wait for the wrecker and threw him 20 feet.)
Let's be careful out there...
South Dakota has the same law as Ohio. Which makes sense. Although spending a little more money on right of way acquisitions for wider shoulders does too.
No . . . no parting gifts. It was my lucky day.
Could have been because a) I did slow down 10 mph; b) I didn't pull over immediately but drove down the road a bit to a turnout that I knew was there and, when asked what took me so long to pull over, I told him this was a safer spot; c) clean driving record; d) I was wearing my collar; e) all of the above.
I'm sorry but the "80mph suppository" made me laugh quite out loud.
Glad there were no parting gifts.
(note to self: get me one of them collars)
We prayed for your seminary tonight at Evensong. I'm sure you've seen the announcement on their website? I feel awful for the whole Seabury community.
Sophia,
Yes, I've seen it. I have a copy of the letter in front of me and am digesting what it says and means. It's rather ... odd .... at the moment.
