Today is Super Bowl Sunday -- a truly and purely American holiday. It's the day when people gather for food, friendship and to critique commercials (not to mention a holiday that Hallmark has not yet infiltrated).
I was going to post about this yesterday when we got back from our shopping trip to Bozeman. We needed to make the obligatory Wal-Mart and Costco runs.
If you've ever been to Costco on the weekend, you'll know they have their food samplers out and you can pretty much snack your way through the list. Yesterday, however . . . Oh my . . .
You could have gone to Costco in the morning, had brunch and stayed for lunch. They were sampling ALL of their "Big Game Food" -- chips & dip, salmon & crackers, cake & ice cream, drinks to wash it all down with, and a variety of edibles I didn't even get to.
If you're interested in what I'm interested in: A close game (something under 10 points is always good); no injuries; no serious mistakes by players; and most importantly -- a game the officiating crew can be proud they worked.
So today I will wear my "official" clerical shirt, spend some time with God, and enjoy the game.
Blessings to you all on this High Holy Feast Day of Sts. George, Lamar and Vincent.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

Oh, wait. That's TODAY?
You over looked the patron saint of "Stiller" football, St. Art. Somewhere right now The Chief has got a stogie fired up and is ready to root his boys on once again.
For most games I would happily accept your definition of a good game. But I have to admit that one of my personal favorite Super Bowls was the year we beat the Vikes 16-6. A safety was the only score of the first half. Two great defenses. We held Minnesota to a total of 17 yards rushing on the game.
Looking forward to the game (which I'll be watching at the rectory with our associates rectors and their kids!)

Yes, Mark . . . that's today. You might want to go find yourself a good game of cricket instead.
DYG: No, I didn't overlook Art. The "saints" I named represent the NFC Trophy (St. George Halas), the AFC Trophy (St. Lamar Hunt) and the Super Bowl Trophy (St. Vincent Lombardi).
Enjoy the game -- here's hoping it's good -- and here's hoping the Cardinals win.
