Uniforms

I don't usually mention uniforms -- in fact, there's a whole line of jokes about people rooting for teams or betting on teams based on their uniforms.

This year is the 50th Anniversary of the old A.F.L., where teams like the Patriots, Bills, Chargers, Raiders and Broncos were born. Every once in awhile teams will wear throwback uniforms to those original days of yesteryear. The best one is the New England Patriots with the old Patriot dude in that 3-point colonial-era hat snapping the ball.

Anyway . . . back to the uniforms . . . so I don't mention uniforms all that much.

HOWEVER . . .

I'm currently watching the Denver Broncos play the NE Patriots and all I've got to say is

OH

MY

GAWD.

Denver is wearing these black and yellow things that are just hideous; and who thought wearing socks that come from King Henry's court jester was a good idea??? In fact, who thought this combination was even a good idea in the first place?? No wonder it took so long for the A.F.L. to be taken seriously.

And while I'm at it . . .

What was up with giving the officials an orange-striped shirt with red numbers outlined by more orange and an orange hat?

If you aren't a die-hard football fan, I suggest watching some horse racing over on ESPN, or some golf on NBC, or some poker on FOX, or maybe even the Mythbusters marathon on Discovery.

Really . . . Save your eyes.

LOL, when I first saw the old AFL officials uniforms my first thought was "Wonder what RevRef thinks of THOSE!?!?!?!"

And yes the Broncos unis are awful. Gaffney has done something interesting with his (they twist around his leg rather than running straight up. Mrs. DaYouthGuy caught that)

The Pats unis are simple, elegant and classic.

The old Steelers unis are wretched too.

In one of his weekly memos, the director of Montana officiating said, "In case you're wondering, we will NOT be wearing those."

I looked up some photos, since I didn't see any of the game. Showed the photos to the fam.

Opinions here can be summed up thus: What were they thinking???

Well, it was the sixties ...

I was busting a gut watching that game. (Considering the outcome, the comic relief was welcome...especially following the Red Sox game I endured just prior to that.) Whoever that was who twisted the socks was something special too. Good ol' Pat The Patriot sure is a lot different than the Flying Elvis now huh? Something else that made me laugh? Belichick in a pompom hat. Good times.

The twisted socks made me think of the years our daughter spent playing softball; they called those "rally socks."

Speaking of CJ, I showed her a picture of the ref uniforms. "Who in God's name thought that was a good idea?? He looks like a Creamsicle!!"

Creamsicle refs . . . that about sums it up.
