HAVEN'T WE BEEN HERE BEFORE?

So ... we had the Gideon-dude come to the churches yesterday and give his talk about what they do and whatnot. The good news was that I didn't have to work on a sermon for Sunday (see below). The bad news was that it was going to be the same guy as last year.

Last year, I told him, "Why don't you take about 10-15 minutes and let us know about the group and such." He took about 20. And wandered from topic to topic, having difficulty stringing a complete thought together. And told us about little Tommy who was given a New Testament and then brought his brother to Christ. And about how many bibles they distribute. And about SSG James Smith who found a New Testament in the desert in Iraq, read it, and was saved. And about how some countries are hostile to Christianity. And about a little black boy who asked a Brother Gideon if he could go to heaven because he was black and the Brother showed him John 3:16, so the little boy brought his brothers and sisters to Christ.

This year, knowing that the same gentleman was coming, I told him to keep it down to 10 minutes. AND HE DID!!! However, he also told us about little Tommy who was given a New Testament and then brought his brother to Christ.

Oh ... he also mentioned Hurricane Katrina ... sort of.

He's talking, and I'm thinking, "All you've got is one speach? I think I need somebody new next year."

And now, dear friends, time to actually go do something for which I'm paid.
