RESURRECTION REDUX . . . or . . . IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIVE!!

You may or may not recall that my organist at CC retired after over 40 YEARS of playing the organ for this parish. While that was a tough decision to make, it was . . . well . . . necessary.

In the VC office was a Gulbransen Digital Hymnal that was not being used. So I carted it down to Sheridan, bought some speakers and wires, hooked it up, and it works just fine. It's not perfect, and not the best organist I've ever heard, but "Miss Emily" (as I've taken to calling her) performed admirably.

That is, until Good Friday.

On Good Friday, I plugged her in and, well, she seemed to have shorted out her logic board. This is not a good thing. I tried everything I knew, but the only hymn she was willing to play was "Away in a manger." Not exactly Easter-type stuff.

So, she sat in my office over the weekend.

Today I made a call to Gulbransen directly. I spoke with a nice man named Hal. He said, "It sounds like the board needs to be reprogrammed. Here's what you do. Enter 9631. You'll get a message that says, 'self-destruct sequence initiated.' Don't worry, it's just a little progammer humor. Then enter in 8752, and you'll get a message, 'Thou Shalt Not STEAL.' Then enter in 9721, and you'll get another message, 'Thou Shalt Not STEAL.' Try that and let's see what happens."

I am not making this up, folks.

So I did. And it worked! Miss Emily has been resurrected! We now can have music again.

This has been the best Easter EVER!!! Hot diggity.

That's what you get when you have a tech support guy named Hal.

Good morning Dave, I'm ready to play your hymns.
