TODAY AND TOMORROW

TODAY
Our diocese is running a camp session for kids who have at least one parent incarcerated (Lord I hope nobody has two of them). The camp session is no charge to the participant, but camp still costs money to run and the session is being underwritten by various parishes/individuals throughout the diocese.

There are two kids in the Ruby Valley who have a father in jail. Both of my parishes are working at raising money to send them to camp. Since my plea for $15/parishioner fell on deaf ears (see next topic), my treasurer decided to hold a yard sale. We were unsure if it was even going to happen right up to the last minute, but it came off without a hitch. We had a beautiful day, there was another community event in town that drew many visitors, and a new business down the street had an open house, so we were able to draw people in from all over. In the end, we raised over $400 for the camp session. Yeah, that'll do.

TOMORROW

I'm still sort of grumpy from the lack of turn out over Holy Week. One parish seems to embrace "non-Sunday" activities just fine; the other parish, not so much. I let the Vestry know that I was not happy with the way things are going. And the treasurer is not happy with the lack of monetary committment from said parishioners.

This is the first time that I have intentionally written two different sermons. Of course, if nobody shows up it'll be sort of hard to preach ... so I'm hoping I have all of my so-called regulars in the pew tomorrow. Playing nice hasn't seemed to work, so maybe a grumpy priest delivering a grumpy sermon will get some attention.

At this point, it's up to them whether they want to take this stuff seriously and live, or continue to take the road apathetic and let the church crumble to the ground and die.
