Well, maybe not totally appropriate for this post. Today St. Paul's hosted about 30 bicyclists from New Haven, CT. Most of the riders attend Yale, and they are biking across the country to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity.
The general consensus was that the trip was going very well, "but that mountain between Ennis and Virginia City was a bugger!" (What was I saying about Fools and Angels??) They seemed to be pleased when we told them that the road to Dillon was rolling hills.
The event is called the Habitat Bicycle Challenge, and there are three routes: North, Central and South. The North route ends up in Seattle, the South route ends up in San Francisco, and the Central route (the ones we hosted) ends up in Portland. You can check them out from the link I provided, but they seem to be a little behind schedule on their updates.
We fed them a spaghetti dinner with salads, fruit, bread and plenty of dessert. We are also feeding them breakfast tomorrow morning . . . um . . . we are providing them breakfast tomorrow morning, as they eat at something like 6 a.m. They're big boys and girls and they don't need me there to serve them.
It was a fun evening. When we arrived at the church, they were all sprawled out on the floor, pretty much passed out. When someone mentioned "food" though, they were up. Good food, good conversation, and they even presented me with an HBC t-shirt, which I am wearing as I type this.
Ah . . . to be young again . . .

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

I had a friend in undergrad who did several cross-country bike treks, not for Habitat but for other fundraising. At first I thought he was a little crazy, but the more he talked about his trips, the more I thought it'd be great to go!
Hey ... Feel free to ride out to Montana.
