So, you remember that Emily sort of ... quit working on Sunday. Power cord issues.
On Monday, I tried to rectify the problem. It seems that the cord from the adapter to Ms. Emily was torn so badly that it couldn't be spliced back together. On a shelf at work is an adapter that I saved from when our old computer died, since several of my friends told me, "Don't throw useful things like that away, they might come in handy."
This seemed to be one of those times.
So I got all the numbers off of the old/new adapter:
Input - 12V, 60hZ, 25W
Output - 12V, 1000mA
Numbers from the old, broken adapter:
Input - 12V, 60hZ, 30W
Output - 12V, 1000mA
Great!!! A 5W difference on the input, with identical outputs. No problem. So I plugged it in.
Hit the power button.
Nothing happened.
So I grabbed the remote control and hit "Power." Something happened then, because I apparently forgot to check the flow chart.
Original adapter: + --------[ ------> -
New adapter: - -------[ -------> +
POP!!!
I would say the smell of incense appeared, but it was just the acidic smell of burnt electrical couplings with a generous amount of smoke emanating from the speakers.
"I KILLED HER!!!"
So I didn't sleep well last night. A new Emily costs about $1500. And today I was pretty much in a funk.
But my dear friend Jane convinced me to take Emily to Radio Shack. So I did. And, to make this long story short, we plugged in the brand new, out of the box adapter and Emily powered right up without missing a beat. Even remembered Sunday's hymns!
Thank you Jesus!

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

You gotta watch those polarity mis-matches.
Yes, indeedy, prayers of thanks should definitely be ascending!
