THAT WASN'T EVEN FUN

This has been homecoming week in Sheridan. All the businesses downtown are decorated, and various events have been going on. The car bash was Wednesday evening, the pep rally and bonfire was Thursday night, and Friday had a jr. high game (which I officiated), volley ball game (which I missed) and football game (which was probably one of the most un-entertaining events I have ever been to in my life).

The car bash was over before The Kid had a chance to get up there and bash anything, so she was sort of upset about that.

The bonfire was hot. I was on duty with my truck in case anything got out of hand. It didn't. And we didn't have any injuries, despite the enthusiasm of several boys running up to see how close they could come to the fire without burning anything. So I sat and watched the fire for a couple of hours, and then two other firefighters and I sprayed a bunch of water on the remains and went home. The Kid wanted to hang out with me, so she got to ride home in the truck.

And yesterday, after I showered and recovered somewhat from my earlier game, Mrs. Ref and I went to the homecoming game. On the second play of the game, the first play from scrimmage, Sheridan scored. On the fourth play of the game, the second play from scrimmage, the opponents fumbled and Sheridan recovered. On the third play from scrimmage, Sheridan scored. With 4-1/2 minutes gone in the game, Sheridan was up 24 - 0. At half time, it was 54 - 0.

After watching the half time homecoming activities, we left. When The Kid came home she said, "It was awful."

Final score: Sheridan 74, Granite 0.

And now, I've got two loads of wash in, one folded, dishwasher unloaded, and breakfast of a sort eaten. I always think of that old Army commercial and my family on days like this: [I] do more before 9 a.m. than most people do all day.
