Drill Night

No, this has nothing to do with a drill.

And no, this has nothing to do with the military.

Tonight was our monthly drill night at the fire station.

Most of the time, in this small town, drill night sounds a whole lot like the vultures in "Jungle Book." So when we do have something good, it's well worth it.

Tonight we practiced with fire extinguishers. There's a new system out from a company called BullEx. It's a digital fire system that simulates a real fire and determines if you are using the extinguisher correctly. It's really very cool.

HOT TIP: Your fire extinguisher has about 45 seconds of extinguishing power in it. Don't aim for the flames, aim for what's actually burning.

And then we tried on these things called Fatal Vision Goggles. You put them on and it shows you what it's like to have a .17 - .25 bac. I was able to walk the line, but the best part was watching the other people try to walk and do the sobriety test.

It was a fun night at the fire station.
