Cold

No, I'm not sick.

It's just friggin' cold. Overnight lows have been in the negative 20's.

This morning at 6:40 we were paged out for a possible house fire. As my partner and I left the station, I said, "Now would be a good time to pray that this is a false alarm."

Luckily it was.

I looked at the bank sign on the way home. It read -14. Our high today was 0. And it's currently -12.

On the plus side, we are expecting a warming trend this week as the next few days' forecast shows highs of 13, 19, 26, 28, and 36.

Now that's more like it!

Closest I've ever been to severe hypothermia was being paged out for a semi accident in January at -20. Took three hours to get the mess cleaned up, for the DOT investigators and the cops to do their thing. Meanwhile, we directed traffic around it (mostly.) I thought I was pretty well dressed for it, multiple layers before I left the house and turnouts over it all, but when we finally got back the firehouse, my hands literally refused to work so I could take my gear off. I think I felt cold for more than a week.
And don't get me started on the fun to be had dragging hoses around when it's cold.
