Evangelism

Evangelism comes in all shapes and sizes and for all kinds of products, services and religions.

I was evangelized today by a fellow official who thought I should referee basketball.

I am not a basketball fan. In fact, I'm rather looking forward to the upcoming NBA lockout and pleased that games are already being cancelled. You could not pay me enough to be a basketball referee.

But my colleague was not to be dissuaded so easily. He kept assuring me that reffing basketball was fun. He assured me that it was a great bunch of guys. He assured me that it would be easy. And he assured me that the pay was good.

Finally he informed me that I should be doing basketball because I looked like a basketball referee . . . In other words, relatively tall (5'11") and thin (160 lbs on average).

There are a lot of reasons for evangelizing, but I'm pretty sure that evangelizing people because "they look the part" is not the way to go.
