The ruling on the field is not good

At the lower levels, a lot of officials work multiple sports. I have worked, and do work, with guys who officiate not only football but basketball (the most common), baseball and softball. A few of them have also worked wrestling.

As you move up the ladder, you tend to become more focused on the one sport you really love and work well. This is mainly because the higher you go, the more time it takes.

Gene Steratore, however, is a different breed. He works for the N.F.L. as well as carrying a slate of Division I basketball games.

I found it interesting and something I am not the least bit interested in doing.
