CRYSTAL BALL

Friday, 11 am: Did my first funeral of my ordained ministry (see below). It went well, and the women of the Methodist church put on a good luncheon afterwards. Lots of compliments on the service -- I might have a career in this business.

Friday, 2 pm: Got a phone call from the widow. She invited me and the family to her place later in the evening for an informal get together of friends and relatives to share some conversation and memories of her husband.

Friday, 5 pm: Arrived at the "reception." Her daughter put together a wonderful spread that included warm artichoke heart dip, crab dip, ham rolls w/cream cheese, chips, fruit salad, guacamole dip, drinks, and probably some other stuff I'm missing. It was great.

Friday night: Watched my first "real" football game -- WSU at New Mexico. Wazzu is up to their old tricks again, making their fans go through hypertension before managing to win, but win they did! Go Cougs!!

Saturday, mid-morning: Hung out around the house, reviewed my sermon (see above), paid some bills, cleaned house, the usual Saturday stuff. Also managed to see the Montana Grizzlies win their first game against Maine. Saw that Fresno defeated the Huskies -- always a good thing when the dawgs lose. Also watched Oregon State almost defeat LSU. Heartbreaker for sure -- I just hope their kicker doesn't spend the rest of his life depressed and suicidal (or that people send him death threats). I know my timing is off on a few of these, keep reading.

Saturday, 3:15: The Kid wanted to go up to the school to play tether-ball. Played three games, I won two, although she says I cheated. Hmmm. Looked at the football field -- it's nice. I need to get back to officiating. Wandered around the grounds a little bit more. The Kid tried her long-jumping skills. She needs work. So, being the good dad/coach I am, I tried to help her out and give her some pointers.

Saturday, 4:15: Gave The Kid a technique demonstration. Didn't jump far enough, looked at The Kid rather than the ground, landed wrong, broke my left ankle. Seriously. Not seriously broke, but I'm serious that I broke it. Un (*&^%$ believable.

Saturday evening: Spent in the Sheridan ER getting examined, X-rayed, and wrapped.

Saturday night: Dreamed me and my family were moving into an apartment to start school. Small classrooms were too full and we had to move classes several times. Frank Yamada was teaching calculus. Any other recent graduates out there who have dreamed about starting school their first year out??

Sunday: Did church on crutches. A good time was had by all.
