I'M TIRED

I told a friend that I had blogged a brief post about the latest Pat Robertson fiasco. She seemed surprised that I actually posted something besides a sermon.

Well . . . yes. My football season was relatively uneventful. My time for posting has been limited lately. The job has been busier than normal recently. But more than anything, I'm just plain tired.

My creative blogging juices seem to have been sapped. I'm tired of all the religious wrangling between the left and right about radical inclusiveness and orthodoxy where both sides seem to be willing to beat on each other and accuse each other. And I don't want to post on the Troubles because a) other people do it with so much more intelligence and thoughtfullness than I could ever hope to do, and b) the thought of carrying on a debate on my blog tires me out.

I'm tired of the political fighting between right and left with Bush holding to lies as fact and radical conservatives holding to the "against Bush is against God and country" line while liberals scream about injustices but don't seem to have a clue as to how to right the wrongs. See above for why I don't post on this.

I'm even tired of not having the energy to spend on organizing the house (it's a perpetual dump). By the time the evening or the weekend rolls around, I just want to do nothing. I don't even have the energy to read a book, and that's something that I used to do quite regularly.

41 years old and already I'm a tired, grumpy old man.

I don't think it's surprising that you're tired of it all, a lot of us feel the same way. As you say, others cover the ground better than I ever could.

I think there's lots to blog about besides The Troubles.

Well, if you want to blog more about football, the Missoulans seem to be having a good year, rated #3 in I-AA.

And there's always the upcoming Apple Cup.

By the way, how WAS your season?

You didn't ask, but if you don't mind....
You describe the life of a clergy person. It will not get better. Ever. Unless you do some things, now.
Schedule - SCHEDULE time EVERY week to do some things that you love to do, whether work related or not. Make it happen, put it in your calendar, stick to it. That may include exercise, riding a bike with the kid, making snow men, whatever you DO in Montana.
In addition, there are parts of your "job" that are WORK and parts that are gratifying. Make sure you balance the two.
Lastly, schedule a trip down here. I will have 4 seminary classmates on site this week! That rocks. And everyone who comes shares two comments - it is far worse than they ever imagined, AND they are doing ministry here that re-energizes them for the life they return to, for it is the base work that we are all called to, helping those in desperate need.
Let me know when you are coming....

Thanks for all your comments. Things will get better, and I always seem to feel better after I've vented a little.

The good news is that it's sunny today.

First time comments will be moderated.
