THE BIG SISTER

Juli, our foreign exchange student from Brazil, has apparently made herself at home.

We were talking about prom tonight -- yes, prom. She wanted to know what time it would be. I told her I thought it would probably run from something like 7 until midnight.

She said, "What??? Seven o'clock? How will I have enough time to get ready? I have to curl my hair and get dressed and work to look beeutiful."

O lordy.

And then I was reminded that The Kid is going to her first dance Friday night. Juli asked her if she was wearing a dress.

Her reply: "No Way!! Never in a million years. I'll wear jeans."

Juli: "What?? No dress? You have to wear a dress."

Kid: "No, I'll be fine."

Juli: "No, you will not wear jeans. I will not allow it. Come with me and we'll pick out something nice for you to wear."

On the one hand, I'm glad Juli is working with The Kid to get her into some good general appearance habits.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I'm ready for this.
