HOW DO YOU KNOW?
Because I will be otherwise occupied next Sunday, I am having my deacon preside at service. One of the requirements of this is that I consecrate enough elements so that she can administer reserved Eucharist. This is important. I forgot one time.
So today I consecrated copious amounts of bread and wine so there would be enough next Sunday.
On another note, nobody signed up for coffee hour at CC today, so we didn't have one. On the one hand, that's disappointing as everybody left immediately after service. On the other hand, it allowed me the rare opportunity to have a little down time between services.
It also allowed the person who serves as my altar guild to immediately clean up after service. Which she did.
Before I was even de-vested ... unvested ... whatever ... she had poured the leftover wine in the cruet back into the wine bottle and was carrying stuff over to the parish hall to wash.
3 . . . 2 . . . 1 . . .
How do you know what portion of the wine has been consecrated and what portion hasn't? Does the consecrated wine all float to the top because it's been infused with the Holy Spirit and is therefore lighter than the rest? Or does the consecrated wine add little glow in the dark sparklies to the unconsecrated wine? Or does volume win? Since there is more unconsecrated wine than consecrated, does that have a negating effect? This topic was never covered in any of my seminary classes.
So I went to the nursing home, did a service there, and made sure to save the extra consecrated wine for next week.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

Consecrated wine is like bacteria, it grows and spreads. So the whole bottle is consecrated now. You've got enough reserve for a year.
;-)
Taking Mark's comment into consideration does that mean that we can go on vacation for the rest of the year? Just let me know and Ill call the travel agent
Only if:
A) You can aford it.
B) You're coming to Hawaii.
:-)
