JUXTAPOSITION

Oy ... after reading a certain book in seminary in which that word was used (seemingly) at least once on every page, I promised I would never use that word in any of my sermons (which I have not done) nor in any of my writings (which I just did); but sometimes a certain word is mandatory.

I received a package in the mail today that contained, among other things, a catalog of Sunday bulletin covers and inserts. One of them caught my eye.

This particular cover had the words, "Draw Near to Him." Probably not one that I would personally use, but there it was. What troubled me though ... more like, "overcome with shock and awe" ... was that the Statue of Liberty was the photographic backdrop for the item.

"Draw Near to Him" juxtaposed against Lady Liberty.

Just ... No.

Nodding vigorously re: both points (yuck and good for him). Blogged the NYT story earlier.
