I had a great time doing Theology on Tap last night at The Stockman Bar. In this line of work, some days are better than others (but then, isn't that true of every line of work?), and last night was one of the better ones.
I met a couple of new people. One of them is a son of one of my parishioners. He had heard about the upcoming pet blessing and wanted to know if I'd bless his horse. I told him, "If you ride it to church, I'll bless it." So I may have a horse and rider to bless come Sunday morning. Watch this space for info.
I also met a guy from Sheridan who was just retired from the Navy. He spent 21 years in there as an airplane mechanic. Not all, but a good chunk of that time was spent as a mechanic for the Blue Angels. Now that would be a cool job! Except for the fact that I have trouble finding the oil dipstick on my car ... that would be a cool job.
I chatted with another patron about the church in general and my parish in particular. We'll see if he drops by sometime. He's also on the fire department, so I see him on a semi-regular basis.
Talked with a few people about the new roof and said, "Yeah, that roof looks great. The only problem is that it now makes the paint job look that much worse!"
At which point several people pulled cash out of their wallets to donate to the paint fund.
Yep, gotta love Wednesday nights in The Stockman Bar.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

Nice. That is fabulous.
Sounds fun. I blessed four horses last year at St. Andrew's. They were still on the trailer though.
We Baptists don't do the St Francis thing. *sigh*
I wish we would.
Tripp ... You could. I mean, if some Baptist lady can suggest using a single big candle during a vigil to represent Jesus, why can't you suggest a pet blessing?
Besides, you're the Senior Pastor.
;-)
So, did the horse come? If so, your congregation will have St. John the Gigantic here in NYC beat - no horses this year! :-)
Um ... A horse came, but not the horse from the Stockman. One of The Kid's friends brought her horse. So that was fun.
And now I have some claim to fame over NYC. Of course, we have mountains . . . but that's another story. ;-)
Mountains, and sky, and open space, and quiet, and streams, and wildlife, and horses...
Sigh. The City gets to be a bit much sometimes.
Two of my classmates are from your diocese. How they deal with all this noise, chaos, and dirt, I have no idea.
