SUMMER MUSIC

About a month or two ago I received an e-mail from the new music director at the Virginia City Opera House. You may recall that the music director for the past two years, Dave Calendine (I've got a link to him) wasn't returning this year. We were all bummed out about that because 1) the Opera House needs a musician, and 2) we at St. Paul's had become accustomed to a full summer of music.

Anyway, so I get this e-mail from the new guy. Turns out he's an Episcopalian from Montana, the former music director at the Cathedral, and now sings baritone for an opera company in NYC. He wanted to know what our service times were. So I replied and said, "Oh, by the way . . . if you want to play for us while you're out here . . ."

I never heard back from him. I figured I committed the sin of "OVERENTHUSIASM" and scared him away.

That is, until this past Sunday. He showed up at church, apologized for not getting back to me, and said he would be happy to play on my regular organists off days.

I was a happy priesty boy.
