Random Sunday Post

Have I mentioned that the trip to Germany was great? Okay . . . so I won't repeat that (except to say that it was great, really). But here are a few things I didn't post up because I was in a hurry and/or I was dealing with German keyboards.

1. While we were with The Boy's parents in Hamburg, his mom asked me if I would like to meet the local RC priest and bishop. I thought that would be cool, so I said, "Sure."

Gabi, The Boy's mom, is a florist and managed to get the floral contract with the local RC parish. So anytime they need flowers for any occasion she provides them. We drove over to the church and I got all duded up in my clericals because I was meeting the bishop. Well, it turned out that I just wasn't meeting the bishop, it was part of a huge confirmation service. And I'm pretty sure I blogged about this earlier . . . yep, you can read it here if you want. But what I didn't blog was this:

We walked in and I was introduced to the priest. We chatted for a bit . . . told him I was from Montana visiting my daughter, etc etc etc, and then he says, "Would you like to celebrate with the bishop?"

How cool would THAT be?? My first thought was, "You bet! Where do I vest?" But then my more sensible side got ahold of me and I said it probably wouldn't be appropriate since I wasn't Catholic.

It would've been an experience, though. Not only seeing all those ancient churches, but celebrating with the bishop. As it is, I just muddled my way through their hymnal thanks to the young woman next to me.

2. At least when I was in Germany and mispronouncing things it was because it was German and I'm not. And when they were talking about things, it was because it was English and they aren't.

On the way from Minneapolis to Helena, one of the flight attendants announced that we would have "about a 2-1/2 hour flight to Huh-LAY-nuh."

I turned to Mrs. Ref and said, "Did she just say, 'Huhlayna'?"

"Yep."

Geez . . .

By the end of the flight, she had it figured out.

And now I've got about 45 minutes before my make-up service at the nursing home, so I think I'll catch a little nap.
