Sometimes I'm a little slow on the news feed, but I heard this evening that The Jim Henson Company is severing ties with Chik-Fil-A because of the latter's stance against marriage equality (here's one article).
Dan Cathy, CEO of the restaurant said that they were a Christian organization and supported biblical marriage. He did not, however, say which version of biblical marriage he supported.
Just off the top of my head, here are a few examples of biblical marriage:
*Open Marriage -- where marriage partners are allowed or encouraged to have extramarital sexual relationships (see Abraham and Sarah)
*One man/one woman/concubines (see Abraham)
*One man/multiple wives (see Jacob/Rachel & Leah)
*One man/multiples wives/multiple concubines (see David & Solomon)
*One man/one wife/divorce only in the case of adultery (see Matt. 5:32)
*One man/one wife/no divorce (see Mark 10:4-9)
So it's a little fuzzy on exactly what people mean by "biblical marriage."
Going on the premise that equality is better than inequality, that tolerance is better than prejudice, that love is better than hate, the JHC pulled their affiliation with a company that is committed to inequality, segregation and hate. In a bit of irony, Chick-Fil-A posted a statement saying that their restaurants "treat every person with honor, dignity and respect - regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender."
I guess they're saying that they respectfully think LGBT people aren't human enough to be allowed to live together under the bonds of marriage.
Because of where I live, I can't really do anything about Chik-Fil-A. But thanks to the miracle of the internet, I can do this:

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

I just read about a woman who worked for the Salvation Army, and was fired for her sexual orientation. Makes me wonder.
