My, oh my!

For those not connected to the PNW in anyway, that was the signature line of long-time Seattle Mariners announcer Dave Niehaus.  He was with the M's from their beginning in 1977 until 2010, when he died of a heart attack at age 75 (in a touch of irony, while he was getting ready to bbq ribs at home).  For years, he was literally the only attraction to a Mariners game.

Yesterday, because I had nothing better to do, I turned on the Mariners game.  It was (I think) the first game of a three-game set against the Yankees.  And it was then that I learned that Ichiro, long-time Mariners right fielder with a cannon arm and a Jedi-like presence at bat, had been traded to the Yankees.

My, oh my.

I turned on the game again tonight, and the Yankees lineup included Alex Rodriguez, Raul Ibanez, Ichiro, and Freddie Garcia -- all former Mariners.  I understand players leaving one team for another through trade or free agency or whatever (think Youkilis going from Boston to Chicago); but it's kind of weird when almost half the opposing team used to play on the home team.

My, oh my.
