Well that was quick. Friday I drove down to Cody via Laurel. Stopped in for a travel break and to grab a bite to eat. Actually, I guess I grabbed a bite to eat and then grabbed a quick nap before continuing on down to Cody. It's good to have friends at mid-points.
Had dinner in Cody and then a little preview of what the weekend was about (billed as Spiritual Hiking). The guy running it is the former rector of Christ Church, Cody. He's since retired to do other things, but he was also the runner-up in the Montana bishop election. Then after our little intro session, I went to bed and rested up for the hike.
Saturday we hiked. It was less scenic than I had anticipated, but it was still fun. Up and down, around, over and through. One of our party had a close encounter with a bear, but she was involved with her cubs, so she didn't notice (lucky for us). We found a spot to eat lunch and then hiked back.
Got back to the retreat center and showered and cleaned up and had a wonderful shrimp scampi dinner. If nothing else, the host and hostess treat their guests well. Then I sort of decompressed from all the togetherness of the day (a guy can only take so much), watched the sunset, and went to bed.
Sunday I was up and went out to Wayfarer's Chapel, about an hour from the retreat center. It's a nice little outdoor chapel that also just so happens to be on a grizzly bear path.
After service, I headed back up to Laurel, but went the long way over Beartooth Pass. It's absolutely gorgeous and peaks out at just over 10,000 feet. Got in to Laurel, was fed lunch and dessert (strawberry pie -- mmmmm), and then on home.
It was a good weekend. Although I depleted the camera battery, which is why there are no pictures with this post.
Stay tuned, pictures forthcoming.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

Hey - been thinking about the spiritual retreat thing myself. Don't know about hiking down here tho!
I got the RSS feed (thanks Jane) to work. For some reason when I am on your site the little RSS symbol does not show up in the browser bar like it does for all the other sites that offer a feed. Weird. But I got it now.
