Sermon, 5 Easter, Revelation 21:1-6

I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.

Things are changing. We do not live in a static world. We live in a world of constant change. The world God created, this world, was never meant to last for all eternity; and eventually this world will be replaced at the end of this age and the beginning of the age to come.

I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.

We are changing. The region is changing. You all received a letter about this change. Decisions have been made, and I happen to believe that the effects of those decisions will be felt long into the future. In a dynamic and changing world, remaining static and doing nothing is not an option.

I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.

Some of us will hear these words and be fearful - fearful of losing what once was and fearful of an unknown future.

Some of us will hear these words and be filled with hope - the hope that our future will be more glorious than our past and the hope that all things are being made new.

I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.

How do you hear these words?

This breaks my heart and makes me cry. How very sad it has come to this. Sad that once again, money has become an issue; sad that during times when it is so important to have a place to go for God's presence, guidance and peace there is no help for small churches; sad that people have had to make choices based on money and not faith alone; sad that all the hard work and progress have given you such a short time to make it work in the valley. If only I were rich,,,,,,
My prayers are with everyone involved in this most difficult time.
