Interviews and Writing

I had a phone interview with the Western Parish this evening. It went well enough, I suppose. Nothing that made me want to jump through the phone lines and a) sign on the dotted line, or b) choke them. So all in all it was okay.

There were some moments that made me go, "Hmmm . . . wonder what's up with that." And there was only one question that took me by surprise: "Are you intellectually inquisitive and physically ambitious?"

Um . . . Yeah .... I wonder who's going to win the game as I sit on my couch eating cashews.

But it was okay. So we'll see where it goes from here.

And late this evening I received an e-mail from the Not West Parish asking for more information from me. This is not a form of GOE's (see previous post), but a simple request about why that parish interested me and how my talents, experience and interest might fit with said parish. So I have a little more writing to do this week.

All of this reminds me of a very old song by Styx called Unfinished Song, which is a very cool song that goes, in part, "Where am I going? How do I get there?"

So, for your listening pleasure, and for anyone searching, this one's for you:

Related yet unrelated, I read somewhere once that when we read, our brain doesn't consciously "see" every single letter, but that it collects the image as a whole, with context, and "assumes." That being said, I looked at "Styx" and initially read "Sox." Heh.

Has anyone suggested that you may need help? . . . lol

many times for many different reasons. LOL! Can't question my team loyalty though! And at least my "addiction" is legal. ;-)

"Are you intellectually inquisitive and physically ambitious?"

Hmm.

1. 'I'll raise two million smackers and quadruple your parish plant in five years!'

2. 'I'm within 20 pounds of benching half again my own weight/breaking my record marathon time/winning the Ironman!'

3. 'That's none of your business!' :)

YF: Actually, I'm waiting to use a form of Answer #3. A bishop I once knew (now deceased) said that when he was going through the "dog & pony show," he was faced with, "Please tell us about your personal relationship with Christ."

He said, "It's like my personal relationship with my wife . . . personal," and left it at that. So I'm waiting to use that one.

On the other hand, that was asked during the process for bishop. If I have to use that line, it may mean I'm in the running for bishop, and I DON'T EVEN want to go there.
