It was a good weekend for Northwest football teams.
Eastern Washington University beat the University of Delaware to win the National Championship.
The Seattle Seahawks beat the New Orleans Saints (much to my mother-in-law's consternation) in the biggest NFL playoff upset ever (yes, it can be debated that the Baltimore Colts defeat at the hands of the NY Jets of the upstart AFL was the biggest ever, but, 1) that wasn't an NFL playoff game, and, 2) even if it was strictly an NFL game, it wasn't technically a "playoff" game, since it was the championship game).
All we need now for the sweep is for the Oregon Ducks to beat the Auburn Tigers on Monday.
The bad news here is that DirecTV was not able to come to terms in contract negotiations with the local FOX channel, which means I didn't get to watch ANY games today. So, instead, I turned on a music channel and took a seriously long nap.
Service went well today as well. It's the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, so we renewed baptismal vows and I ran through the baptismal covenant for my sermon. I was also able to weave in the tragedy in Tucson into the sermon and point out that shooting people with whom you disagree is NOT . . . I repeat, NOT . . . how you love your neighbor as yourself; nor is it how we respect the dignity of every human being.
Oh yeah . . . we had crab for dinner on Friday.
So it was a pretty good weekend. Here's hoping for a Ducks' win on Monday.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.
