My Laugh for the Day

At least once a week, and sometimes more often, officials get an e-mail from the home office about rules interpretation and other things pertaining to our avocation.

This being October, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we received a memo today regarding the use of pink stuff. You may have noticed the NFL is going all-pink this month, even the officials have pink highlights here and there.

My laugh came when the OAOA let us know that players were not allowed to wear pink towels because, according to the OSAA Charitable Cause policy, "schools and players may not override rule book requirements regarding equipment or uniform adornments . . . since towels are mandated to be white, they shall be white."

Okay . . . So the OAOA appears to be a bunch of sticks-in-the-mud regarding the possibility of supporting breast cancer awareness. That is, until I read the rest of the memo:

Players are free to wear pink helmets, pink pants, pink socks, pink shoes, pink socks, pink shoelaces and/or pink sweatbands as the color of these items are not restricted by rule.

So, pink-out, dude.

And, if you're wondering, officials can wear pink whistles because the color of those are not specified by rule.
