Christmas Sermons

I hate it when I know what I would like to say, but the words and structure don't want to come out.

"Well, I had a good idea for a Christmas sermon and new life and light and babies, but it never got past the idea stage, so I'll just say, "Merry Christmas," just doesn't cut it for a sermon.

I'm hearing Stadler and Waldorf in the background:

"I liked it."

"Yeah . . . it was SHORT."

As a Lay Eucharistic Minister, I am sometimes called upon to do Morning or Evening Prayer. How on earth full-time clergy manage to come up with coherent sermons week after week just astounds me. However, there are only so many things that can be said about Christmas - my dad always said he dreaded "pulling another idea out of the swamp" - so I can certainly sympathize.
