Lots of NFL games on the schedule today. Normally, when the NFL takes over Saturdays from the college ranks, I get to enjoy a whole day of pro football.
However . . . today is Christmas Eve. Which means that I won't get to spend the whole day on the couch watching games. Because, you know, I've got a job.
The disappointment of not being able to spend all day on the couch watching games is eased by the knowledge that in just about five hours from now I'll be swinging a thurible and smoking up the church.
Merry Christmas, everyone.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

hope you have a Blessed Christmas and a hot thurible!
Gary G.
I am GREEN with envy that you have incense! I've been trying to convince our rector to use it for years, to no avail. "Maybe for Epiphany", she said, "but we have to warn people first." Yeesh. People use all if these scented candles in every room of the house, and then pitch a fit over a thurible. (Can you tell I'm a bit on the high church side?)
Gary: Thank you.
Lady Anne: I know. Although, to be fair, there was one instance when I was at seminary where we had a smudging ceremony that was combined with incense and/or Easter lilys that seriously got to me. I had to leave the chapel because I was coughing so much.
To be safe, I tell my congregations, "No Easter lilys."
And, really, I smoke up the church 2-3 hours before the first service, so it's all disapated to the point where it just smells nice.
Hmm. That's a thought. A compromise, and IF we have the service on the 6th, it's a Friday, so there's time to do that.
In all fairness, the last time we had incense - previous rector - the young fellow got to swinging the thurible a bit too enthusiastically (honestly, you've have thought he was playing "walk the Dog" with a yo-yo) and spilled burning incense on the carpet.
Being nosy - where did you og to seminary? My dad was at Sewanee.
I went to seminary at Seabury-Western.
And, fyi, after the church in Virginia City got the floors refinished and the new carpet installed, I was trying to eliminate that lovely "factory glue" smell by censing the place. I accidentally tipped the thurible over, spilling hot incense and coals on the BRAND NEW carpet, burning holes in several places.
Oy.
Oy, indeed! I imagine you said a number of "church words" over that!
