Today is the day the former rector returns as a parishioner to the parish.
I can't help but think of it as my own personal D-Day.
The only thing left to do is to get on with business as usual.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

One year from when you became rector? I take it there aren't any choices other than your church?
Hope it goes well. It sounds like there's a plan in place, and this isn't just random and haphazard, so it should work out.
How long do former rectors have to wait before they can "return to the scene of the crime" there? It used to be one year in Maryland, then it was increased to two, and I've heard rumors that the bishop is considering making it three. Our former rector has been gone two years, and would love to return - there are no other Episcopal churches in the immediate area, worse yet - but it seems the diocese keeps putting him off. (I think he's beginning to take it all personally!)
Mark: No, we are the only Episcopal church in GP. He's been going to the church in Medford, which is about a 30-40 minute commute. Yes, there was a plan in place and it's not haphazard. I also have several parishioners willing to help ensure he behaves.
Lady Anne: As you point out, it depends on what diocese you're in. Here, and in my former diocese, there was a year-long moratorium beginning with when the new rector was called.
Does the Bishop require consent of the new rector? I'd think that one year is great, but the new guy (or gal) would have to say, "I'm okay with this."
I think if I had said something about it, the bishop would have certainly taken that into consideration. Although, with his reputation, the bishop will not hesitate to step in if need be.
But today was a good beginning, so that made me happy.
Good. :-)
