You may have heard me talk about Ms. Emily, my "organist" at Christ Church. She (it) is really a digital hymnal, but I've taken to calling her Ms. Emily just because I thought it sounded like a nice church organist name.
In church on Sunday, I mentioned that Ms. Emily doesn't know all the hymns in The Hymnal 1982, but she knows a fair amount of them. This normally isn't a big deal, but sometimes I'll come across a hymn I want to use, she won't know it, and I'll stick a different tune in that can be used. It's sort of tricky, and you just have to remember to not look at the printed music.
So anyway, I mention that Ms. Emily doesn't know a particular hymn and we'll be substituting tunes. At which point, one of my elderly parishioners points to the digital hymnal and says, "Is that Emily?"
"Yes."
"Okay." And then, pointing to her portable oxygen tank, says, "This is Ethel."
Funny how we like to humanize inanimate objects.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

Haha, that's really funny. And so true.
And hey, my name's Emily and I'm a church organist!
My cars tend to get names. We owned a Renault for a while (don't ask, it was a terrible, terrible mistake) so naturally it was name Louis.
