Just before we headed off on the Great College Road Trip of 2012, I received an e-mail from one of the other local congregations inviting the churches of the area to participate in something called iPledge Sunday. It's an event sponsored by the FRC and AFA to help people address issues of "faith, family and freedom."
I'm currently working on a rebuttal on why I will not be participating in that event, and why we shouldn't be supporting these groups.
And the paper will probably receive tons of letters vilifying me for being "one of those liberal, 'merican hatin, gay lovin' non-christians."
But we'll see.
What's that saying . . . Any publicity is good publicity.

A Few Words About Comments
Comments are always welcome here, but there are a few things you should know:
1) If you comment, leave a name. If you can't figure out how to log in or register or whatever the system is making you do (which, believe me, I fully understand how frustrating that can be) and you must comment anonymously . . . leave a name in the comment section. Purely anonymous comments will be deleted.
2) Comments I deem to be offensive, irrelevant, or generally trollish will be deleted. I'm mainly talking to the Akurians here. Don't make me get out my flag!
3) If you would like to receive e-mail notification of other comments so you can more easily follow a conversation (yeah, like I ever have those on this blog), you must register with Blogger. Sorry . . . I didn't have anything to do with that one.
Enjoy the game.

OK, I'll bite - what are FRC and AFA? And how does denying two people who are in love the right to - at the very least - a civil union amount to "freedom"? As in "equal protection under the law" type freedom.
Being gay is like being left-handed; it's a physical imperative and can't be changed or denied. (Not successfully, at any rate.) Don't get me started!
FRC is the Family Research Council.
AFA is the American Family Association.
As I understand it, if gays are allowed to marry then the whole institution of marriage is threatened because married men will want to leave their wives for other men . . . or something like that. I haven't really been able to follow their logic other than, "It's icky and we don't like it."
These groups seem to think that allowing minorities (especially gays) any type of freedom means that their own freedom will be threatened.
In short, their whacked.
